Why do some people get tattoos?

unless your a real tough guy who gets into bar fights or has been in jail, or a butch dike or prossi then i think getting a tattoo just makes you look like a total pretender what do you think? lately i've seen mostly geeky looking guys getting tattoos and good looking girls ruining themselves with mive arm tattoos or tramp stamps, I think it's actually become cooler not to get a tattoo because just about everyone else is getting one these days instead of just the criminals.
