Is it too late to ask for Debt Validation?

I have had the debt for over a year now and the collection agency is basically getting ready to sue me. They gave me two hours this afternoon to call everyone I know to get the money. The one person that I could possibly get money from was my mother and I wasn't going to call her at work about this. When she got off (outside the two hour time limit) she said she could get some money to me to get this handled. I've since read on budhibbs.com about the firm (trauner cohen and thomas) and how it would be difficult for them to validate the debt since they are a bottom feeder and the trail is tainted blah blah blah. I can't get a hold of anyone at the firm (it's 8:00 and they're open till 9. I've been trying to call for about 3 hours now.)
